Hand held equipment is prone to damage more easily and more often than other types, therefore requires testing more frequently. Construction sites often call for weekly, and 3 monthly testing on 110V systems.
This category of appliances would include kettles, toasters, and items that generally stay in one place but do get moved. Any item weighing less than 18kg as a rule.
Moveable items would include portable heaters, de-humidifiers, electric fans etc. items that can be rolled on wheels or castors, or carried with handles.
Washing machines and other large white goods, television sets etc are considered stationary. These items can be moved for testing, but usually require more time and work.
Wall heaters and hand dryers that are wired into the building infrastructure via a fused outlet are considered fixed. These should also be tested, but to carry out this work safely, the tester should be trained in the proper safe isolation and proving procedures.
To test IT equipment safely, and without causing any damage to the equipment, we have to use different test criteria. Our new and up to date testers have specific test routines designed for such equipment.
We test microwave ovens to BS5175, BS EN 60335-2-25 this includes a visual test as well as a microwave leakage test to ensure that the oven emits no more than 5mW/cm2 at a distance of 50mm. This is conducted at the same time as the PAT test, and is included in the PAT test costing so long as the test is not conducted as a stand alone test.
Our rates start from £55 and this includes the first 20 items to be tested.
This initial fee covers travel, admin and certificates as required.
Further items are charged individually after this, and the price per item will depend on the quantities involved. We can offer a day rate if you prefer, please call or E-mail for details.
Out of hours or weekend testing carries a small extra fee, this can be advantageous if your establishment requires minimal disruption during normal hours.
Please contact us if you require a testing and maintenance contract.
