NO : Although companies and employers have a legal duty to ensure that any electrical equipment used must be safe and maintained. There are many laws that encompass the use of electrical equipment, PAT testing is the easiest and most cost efficient way of compliance.

No : PAT testing companies and providers differ in many ways. The industry is not regulated, therefore there are no minimum standards apart from the IET code 5th edition, and the standards as set out by PATTA. Some PAT providers who are "qualified" have literally purchased a PAT tester that comes bundled with a DVD course and sat an online test. Most reputable companies will have employees that are City & Guilds 2377-77 qualified and are considered to be competent in their field. If you are quoted a low price for testing, i.e. 45p per item, then ask why such a low price. Are you getting a proper service, or paying for sticker engineers ? your insurance company will certainly want to know if something ever went wrong.
We will carry out minor repairs if time allows, and it is within our skill set. These are usually simple repairs like plug or fuse issues, cable replacement, earthing issues ETC. More complicated issues can be dealt with, and would be discussed with the person responsible for the maintenance of such systems. As part of our testing procedure, we also carry out a risk assessment of your items and any recommendations or observations are included in your final reports.
